Temu has signed an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) agreement with Finnish SUP Producer Responsibility Organisation Ltd., the only body approved in Finland to manage producer responsibility for single-use plastic products. The agreement gives sellers on the Temu platform a structured pathway to meet their compliance obligations under the EU Single-Use Plastics Directive.

The EU Single-Use Plastics Directive requires producers and importers of specific single-use plastic products — including balloons, fishing gear, wet wipes and tobacco products — to register with an approved producer responsibility organisation and fund the collection and treatment of their products after use. Finnish SUP Producer Responsibility Organisation Ltd. was established in 2022 and holds approval in the Finnish producer register for those product categories.

Under the agreement, Temu will work with Finnish SUP Producer Responsibility Organisation Ltd. and relevant Finnish authorities to help sellers on its platform register, report and meet their obligations under the Directive.

The agreement is the latest in a series of EPR agreements Temu has concluded with producer responsibility organisations across Europe. Previous agreements include arrangements with Retur in Denmark and Eesti Elektroonikaromu OÜ in Estonia.

Temu introduced its Local Seller Program in Finland in 2025. Through the program, sellers based in Finland can list products on Temu and reach consumers across the platform's 90-plus markets.

"This agreement gives sellers on Temu a clear route to meeting their producer responsibility obligations under Finnish and EU law," said a Temu spokesperson. "We are providing the practical guidance and resources they need to comply."
